Biography
Pamela Mary Brown was a British actress. Born in London on 8 July 1917, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her stage debut in 1936 as Juliet at Stratford-upon-Avon. She appeared with the Old Vic company and made her Broadway debut in 1947.
Brown's screen career began in 1942 with One of Our Aircraft Is Missing. She became known for roles including Catriona in I Know Where I'm Going! (1945), Jane Shore in Richard III (1955), Christine in Lust for Life (1956), the High Priestess in Cleopatra (1963) and again in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966), and Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine in Becket (1964). She received a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in the television production Victoria Regina (1961).
She worked frequently with directors Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger early in her film career and later lived with Powell until her death in 1975.
