Biography
Paul Dukas was a French composer, music critic, scholar and teacher. Born in Paris in 1865, he studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he later taught composition from 1927 until his death in 1935.
His best-known work is the symphonic poem The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1897), which gained wider recognition through its use in the 1940 Disney film Fantasia. Dukas was intensely self-critical and destroyed many of his compositions; among his surviving works are the Symphony in C (1896), the opera Ariane et Barbe-bleue (1907) and the ballet La Péri (1912).
