Biography

Paul Fix was an American character actor best known for his work in Westerns. Born Peter Paul Fix on 13 March 1901 in Dobbs Ferry, New York, he began acting in local productions in New York before moving to Hollywood in the 1920s. His career spanned from 1925 to 1981 and included more than 100 films and numerous television appearances.

Fix appeared as Judge Taylor in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). He portrayed Marshal Micah Torrance in the television series The Rifleman (1958–1963) and had roles in films such as Giant (1956), Red River (1948) and El Dorado (1966). He also wrote screenplays for three films, including Tall in the Saddle (1944).

Fix was married twice and had one daughter, Marilyn, who married actor Harry Carey Jr. He died of kidney failure on 14 October 1983 in Los Angeles, California.
