Biography

Paweł Edelman is a Polish cinematographer born on 26 June 1958 in Łódź. He studied film at the University of Łódź and graduated in cinematography from the PWSFTViT Film School in Łódź in 1988.

He is known for his frequent collaborations with directors Roman Polanski and Andrzej Wajda. His credits include The Pianist (2002), Ray (2004), Oliver Twist (2005), The Ghost Writer (2010), Carnage (2011), Venus in Fur (2013), An Officer and a Spy (2019) and Lee (2024).

For The Pianist, Edelman won the César Award for Best Cinematography and the European Film Award for Best Cinematographer, and received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations. He was also nominated for an ASC Award for Ray.
