Biography

Popol Vuh was a German musical collective founded in 1969 by keyboardist Florian Fricke. The group began as an electronic music project but later incorporated organic instrumentation and world music influences.

They are best known for their long collaboration with director Werner Herzog, providing original music for films including Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972), The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974), Heart of Glass (1976), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), Fitzcarraldo (1982) and Cobra Verde (1987). Their scores often blended choral and ambient elements with traditional instruments.
