Biography
R. G. Armstrong (born Robert Golden Armstrong Jr.) was an American character actor. He was born on 7 April 1917 in Birmingham, Alabama, and died on 27 July 2012 in Studio City, California.
Armstrong trained at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Actors Studio. He began his career on the New York stage, appearing in Broadway productions such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, before moving to film and television in the 1950s. He became a familiar presence in Westerns and other genres, appearing in dozens of films and television series over a career spanning nearly fifty years.
He is known for roles including General Phillips in Predator (1987), Diehl in Children of the Corn (1984), Honest John in My Name Is Nobody (1973), Pruneface in Dick Tracy (1990), Kevin MacDonald in El Dorado (1966), and Ollinger in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973). Armstrong frequently collaborated with director Sam Peckinpah.
