Biography
Rainer Klausmann is a Swiss cinematographer. Born on 9 April 1949 in Wettingen, he trained as a camera assistant and worked initially for Swiss cinematographers Hans Liechti and Thomas Mauch, including on Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo (1982). He became freelance in 1981 and took principal cinematography roles from 1984.
Klausmann has collaborated frequently with directors Markus Imboden, Oliver Hirschbiegel and Fatih Akin. His credits include The Experiment (2001), Head-On (2004), Downfall (2004), The Edge of Heaven (2007), The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008), Soul Kitchen (2009), In the Fade (2017) and The Golden Glove (2019). He has also worked on numerous television productions.
He received the Adolf-Grimme-Preis for best cinematography in 1994, the Bavarian Film Prize camera award in 2001, and the German Film Prize (Lola) for Head-On.
