Biography

Bernd Eichinger was a German film producer, screenwriter and director. He was born on 11 April 1949 in Neuburg an der Donau, Bavaria, and died on 24 January 2011 in Los Angeles.

He studied at the University of Television and Film Munich and in 1979 acquired a stake in Neue Constantin Film, later becoming its executive director. Under his leadership the company became one of Germany’s leading production and distribution houses.

Eichinger produced and wrote the screenplay for Downfall (2004). His other credits include The NeverEnding Story (1984), The Name of the Rose (1986), Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) and The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008), as well as the Resident Evil film series.
