Biography
Ralf D. Bode (also credited as Ralf Bode) was a German-born American cinematographer. Born in Berlin, he moved to the United States in 1954 and graduated from the University of Vermont. He served as a photographer in the US Army Signal Corps, briefly worked as an actor, and studied directing at the Yale School of Drama before entering cinematography.
Bode's feature credits include Saturday Night Fever (1977), Coal Miner's Daughter (1980, Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography), Dressed to Kill (1980), Gorky Park (1983), The Accused (1988), Uncle Buck (1989) and Don Juan DeMarco (1994). He shot the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps sequence in Rocky (1976) as second-unit cinematographer. He received Emmy nominations for the television films Gypsy (1993) and Annie (1999). Bode was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and taught at the Los Angeles Film School.
