Biography
Reginald Rose was an American playwright and screenwriter. He wrote for live television anthology series from the early 1950s and adapted several of his works for film.
Rose was born in Manhattan, New York City, on 10 December 1920. He attended Townsend Harris High School and briefly studied at City College before serving in the US Army from 1942 to 1946, where he reached the rank of first lieutenant. He began writing for television in 1951.
He is best known for the teleplay Twelve Angry Men, first broadcast on Studio One in 1954 and adapted as the 1957 film 12 Angry Men, on which he received screenplay, story and producer credits. Other credits include episodes of The Twilight Zone, the series The Defenders, and screenplays for Man of the West (1958), The Wild Geese (1978) and Escape from Sobibor (1987). Rose died on 19 April 2002 in Norwalk, Connecticut.
