Biography
Richard Portnow is an American actor. Born on 26 January 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in speech and theatre.
He began working in film and television in the 1980s. Portnow played Detective Mastrionotti in the Coen brothers' Barton Fink (1991) and Handsome Frank in Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999).
Among his other credits are roles in Se7en (1995), Sister Act (1992), Private Parts (1997) and the HBO series The Sopranos (1999–2007), in which he portrayed attorney Harold "Mel" Melvoin. He has also appeared in Grey's Anatomy, Suits, Grimm and Law Abiding Citizen (2009).
