Biography
Richard Wilson is a Scottish actor, theatre director and broadcaster. He was born Iain Carmichael Wilson on 9 July 1936 in Greenock, Renfrewshire.
He is best known for playing Victor Meldrew in the BBC sitcom One Foot in the Grave (1990–2000). Other television roles include Gaius in Merlin (2008) and a guest appearance as himself in the 1998 episode "The Mainland" of Father Ted.
Wilson trained at RADA and has directed for the stage and screen. He was appointed OBE in 1994 for services to drama and served as Rector of the University of Glasgow from 1996 to 1999.
