Biography
Rita Hsiao is an American screenwriter. Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter of Chinese parents, she studied artificial intelligence at the University of California, San Diego before pursuing writing.
She entered the industry with a spec script for the television series The Wonder Years and joined Disney, later working on series including Ellen, Thunder Alley and All American Girl. Her feature credits include the screenplays for Mulan (1998) and Toy Story 2 (1999), for both of which she received Annie Awards. Subsequent work encompasses 13 Going on 30 (2004), Enchanted (2007), My Little Pony: The Movie (2017), The Monkey King (2023) and an episode of the series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (2021).
