Biography
Robert Asher (1915–1979) was a British film and television director. He began his career as an assistant director in 1934 and worked in that capacity on numerous productions, including wartime films and later features such as A Night to Remember (1958).
Asher made his debut as a solo director with the Norman Wisdom comedy Follow a Star (1959). He directed several further Wisdom vehicles, as well as Make Mine Mink (1960) and The Intelligence Men (1965), before concluding his feature work with Press for Time (1966). In the late 1960s he moved into television, directing episodes of series including The Baron, The Champions, The Saint, The Prisoner (1967) and The Avengers. He was the brother of cinematographer Jack Asher.
