Biography
Robert Hobbs is a South African actor. Born in Cape Town in 1972, he moved at an early age to Welkom, where he was educated at Christian Brothers College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama from the University of Cape Town in 1993.
Hobbs began his career in South African theatre, with roles including Macbeth for the State Theatre; his performance in Yasmina Reza's Life x 3 earned a Naledi Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He has since appeared in films and television, including as Ross Pienaar in District 9 (2009), a Presidential Guard in Invictus (2009), The Procurement Officer in Chappie (2015), Captain Collins in The Mauritanian (2021) and Jenks in Black Sails (2014).
