Biography
Robert Phalen (10 May 1937 – 6 December 1995) was an American actor. Born in San Francisco, California, he attended George Washington High School, where he took part in the drama club and served as student body president. His early stage work included membership of San Francisco's Actor's Workshop in the early 1960s, with roles such as Mick in Harold Pinter's The Caretaker. He later performed on Broadway from 1965 in productions including Twelfth Night, The Crucible, Saint Joan, King Lear and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Phalen's screen career began in the mid-1970s. Film credits include Newberry in Three Days of the Condor (1975), Dr. Terence Wynn in Halloween (1978), and Major Bell in Starman (1984). He also appeared in Someone's Watching Me! (1978), Zoot Suit (1981), The Gladiator (1986) and Impulse (1990). On television he played Rufus Jackson in Roots (1977), Andrei Ivanov in Babylon 5 (1994), and guest roles in series including MAS*H, Magnum, P.I., Taxi and Remington Steele. He died in Los Angeles from complications of AIDS.
