Biography
Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh) was an American actor. He made his film debut in Handy Andy (1934) and appeared as Bob Gordon in Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935). He signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and gained leading roles from 1935, including in Magnificent Obsession (1935) and Camille (1936).
Taylor served as a flight instructor in the United States Naval Air Forces during the Second World War. His later film work included Waterloo Bridge (1940), Quo Vadis (1951), Ivanhoe (1952) and Knights of the Round Table (1953). On television he starred in The Detectives (1959–1962) and hosted Death Valley Days from 1966.
He was married to actress Barbara Stanwyck from 1939 to 1951 and to actress Ursula Thiess from 1954. Taylor died in 1969.
