Biography
Rose Smith was an American film editor, also credited as Rose Richtel. Born on 6 March 1897 in New York, she began working as a cutter for D.W. Griffith at the Biograph studio in New York while still young and later moved with the company to California. She collaborated frequently with her husband, editor James Smith, on Griffith's productions.
Her editing credits include The Birth of a Nation (1915) and Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages (1916). She worked on other Griffith films such as Way Down East (1920, uncredited), Orphans of the Storm (1921) and America (1924). Smith also had one acting credit, as a dancer in Orphans of the Storm. She died on 29 May 1962 in Glendale, California.
