Biography

Sadayuki Murai (村井さだゆき) is a Japanese screenwriter. Born in 1964 in Nara, he won the 6th Fuji Television Young Scenario Award in 1993 and made his industry debut that year.

He is known for his screenplays for the animated films Perfect Blue (1997), directed by Satoshi Kon, Millennium Actress (2001) and Steamboy (2004). He has also contributed to television series including Cowboy Bebop (1998) and Knights of Sidonia (2014), as well as the Godzilla animated films (2017–2018).

Murai has worked extensively in both animation and live-action, and serves as a professor at the Faculty of Anime and Manga Art, Kaishi Professional University.
