Biography
Seiichirô Ujiie was a Japanese media executive and film producer. Born on 17 May 1926 in Tokyo, he joined Yomiuri Shimbun-sha in 1951 after graduating from the University of Tokyo. He rose through the ranks at its subsidiary Nippon Television Network (NTV), serving as president from 1992 to 2001 and chairman thereafter until his death on 28 March 2011 in Tokyo.
Through his leadership at NTV, Ujiie supported numerous Studio Ghibli productions. He received executive producer credits on Pom Poko (1994), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001) and The Cat Returns (2002), producer credit on My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999), and executive producer credit on The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013). He also worked on other anime films, including several Detective Conan features.
Ujiie served as chairman of the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan and as director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
