Biography
Sergio Donati was an Italian screenwriter. He wrote for more than 70 films from 1952 onwards and is best known for his work on spaghetti westerns, including the screenplay for Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).
Born in Rome in 1933, Donati initially wrote crime novels before entering screenwriting. He collaborated closely with director Sergio Leone, contributing uncredited rewrites to For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), and credited screenplays for Once Upon a Time in the West and Duck, You Sucker! (1971). Other credits include The Big Gundown (1967), Face to Face (1967), Slap the Monster on Page One (1972), Orca (1977) and Raw Deal (1986). He died in Mentana, Italy, in 2024.
