Biography
Shinobu Ōtake (also credited as Shinobu Otake) is a Japanese actress. Born on 17 July 1957 in Shinagawa, Tokyo, she has worked in film, television and on stage since the 1970s.
She won three Japan Academy Film Prizes: Best Actress in 1979 for The Incident, Best Supporting Actress in 1979 for Seishoku no ishibumi, and Best Actress in 2000 for Railroad Man. Ōtake has collaborated extensively with director Kaneto Shindō and has voiced characters in several Studio Ghibli films, including Mrs Kurokawa in The Wind Rises (2013), Homily in The Secret World of Arrietty (2010), Great-Aunt Charlotte in Mary and the Witch's Flower (2017) and Aiko in The Boy and the Heron (2023).
Other notable screen roles include Miyako Sasaki in Our Little Sister (2015) and Noriko Kinugasa in Hell Dogs (2022). She performed at the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
