Biography
Shirō Sagisu (also credited as Shiro Sagisu) is a Japanese composer, arranger and music producer. Born on 29 August 1957 in Setagaya, Tokyo, he began his career in 1977 as a member of the jazz fusion band T-Square before becoming a full-time composer and writer in 1979.
He is best known for his long collaboration with studio Gainax and director Hideaki Anno, composing the soundtrack for the 1995 series Neon Genesis Evangelion and its related films, including The End of Evangelion (1997) and the Rebuild of Evangelion series. His other notable anime scores include Bleach (2004) and its films, Attack on Titan (2015), and Berserk (2016). He also composed for live-action films such as Shin Godzilla (2016).
Sagisu won the Tokyo Anime Award for Best Music in 2010 for Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. He arranged a version of the Japanese national anthem performed at the 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. He is president of the production company P Productions, founded by his father.
