Biography
Stanley R. Jaffe was an American film producer and studio executive. Born Stanley Richard Jaffe on 31 July 1940 in New Rochelle, New York, he was the son of Columbia Pictures executive Leo Jaffe. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and began his career at Seven Arts Associates before moving to CBS and then Paramount Pictures.
Jaffe served as president of Paramount Pictures in the early 1970s, becoming one of the youngest studio heads in Hollywood history. He later held executive roles at Columbia Pictures. As an independent producer, his credits included Goodbye, Columbus (1969), The Bad News Bears (1976), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Taps (1981), Fatal Attraction (1987), The Accused (1988) and Black Rain (1989). Kramer vs. Kramer won the Academy Award for Best Picture. In the 1980s he partnered with Sherry Lansing to form Jaffe-Lansing Productions.
Jaffe died on 10 March 2025 at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, aged 84.
