Biography

Stanley Ridges (17 July 1890 – 22 April 1951) was an English-born American actor. He began his career on the stage as a protégé of Beatrice Lillie and appeared in Broadway productions including Maxwell Anderson's Mary of Scotland and Valley Forge. He made his film debut in the silent Success (1923) and transitioned to sound films, with his career gaining momentum from Crime Without Passion (1934).

Ridges was frequently cast in supporting and character roles. His better-known performances include dual roles in Black Friday (1940), Major Buxton in Sergeant York (1941), Professor Alexander Siletsky in To Be or Not to Be (1942), and Sam Moreland in No Way Out (1950). He played the lead only once, in the B-picture False Faces (1943). Ridges appeared in more than 100 stage and screen productions between 1917 and 1951.
