Biography
Stephan James is a Canadian actor. Born in Toronto in 1993, he began his career with a recurring role in the television series Degrassi: The Next Generation and went on to appear in other Canadian productions including My Babysitter's a Vampire.
He rose to prominence with his portrayal of John Lewis in Selma (2014) and as Jesse Owens in Race (2016), for which he received a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor. Further notable roles include Alonzo "Fonny" Hunt in If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) and Walter Cruz in the series Homecoming (2018), earning a Golden Globe nomination. He has also appeared in 21 Bridges (2019) and played Boy Charles in The Piano Lesson (2024). His brother, Shamier Anderson, is also an actor.
