Biography
Steven Kane is an American television and theatre writer, producer and director. He was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, graduated from Cherry Hill High School West, majored in English and French at the University of Pennsylvania, and attended graduate film school at the University of Southern California.
Kane began his career writing and directing independent films and theatre. His first feature, The Doghouse (2000), won Best Director at the NY Indy Film Festival, and his collection of one-act plays Out of Your Mind had a run at the GuerriLA Theater in Los Angeles. His television writing credits include episodes of Alias (2001), NCIS (2003), The Closer (2005; Edgar nomination), Without a Trace (2002), Major Crimes (2012), American Dad! and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
He co-created and served as showrunner and executive producer on The Last Ship (2014–2018) and co-created and showran Halo (2022). In 2016 he received the US Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award for his work on The Last Ship. He has also written for Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (2018).
