Biography
Susan Vaill is an American film and television editor, director and producer. She is best known for her editing work on the series Hacks (2021–), for which she won an ACE Eddie Award in 2022 and received Emmy and HPA Award recognition, as well as on Grey's Anatomy (2005), This Is Us (2016), Space Force (2020), Lodge 49 (2018) and Abbott Elementary (2021).
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Vaill appeared as a child actor with her twin sister in 1970s film and television, including Bound for Glory (1976). She studied art history and film theory at Williams College and earned an MFA in film production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Early in her career she worked as an assistant editor on documentaries and features such as The Last Samurai (2003).
Vaill edited more than 70 episodes of Grey's Anatomy and directed three episodes of the series. She joined the American Cinema Editors in 2018 and has edited pilots and first seasons of several television shows.
