Biography
Sy Bartlett was an American screenwriter, novelist and producer. Born Sacha Baraniev in Mykolaiv in 1900, he moved to the United States as a child and later trained at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University before working as a newspaper reporter.
He began writing for Hollywood in 1933 and received credits on more than two dozen films. With Beirne Lay Jr. he wrote the novel Twelve O'Clock High (1948) and its 1949 screen adaptation. His other screenplay credits include The Big Country (1958). In the 1950s he turned to producing and co-founded Melville Productions with Gregory Peck.
Bartlett died in Hollywood in 1978.
