Biography
Sydney J. Bartholomew Jr. was an American production designer, art director and director. He was born on 15 August 1953 in Tarboro, North Carolina, and died on 15 June 2008 in Los Angeles, California.
He studied art at Appalachian State University and earned a master’s degree from Memphis State University. Early in his career he assisted conceptual artist Christo and worked as art director on the television series Pee-wee’s Playhouse (1986), for which the team won a Daytime Emmy. He also designed music videos, including George Harrison’s “When We Was Fab”.
Bartholomew Jr. moved into feature films as production designer on Dumb and Dumber (1994). He collaborated frequently with directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly on Kingpin (1996), Me, Myself & Irene (2000), Shallow Hal (2001) and The Heartbreak Kid (2007), among others. He also directed the feature Just for Kicks (2003).
