Biography
Sylvester Groth is a German actor born on 31 March 1958 in Jerichow. He trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and began his career in East German theatre before escaping to West Germany in 1986. He has worked extensively on stage, including at the Schaubühne in Berlin, and with directors such as Peter Zadek and Robert Wilson.
Groth is known internationally for portraying Joseph Goebbels in Inglourious Basterds (2009) and My Führer (2007). His other notable film and television roles include Otto in Stalingrad (1993), Walter Schweppenstette in the Deutschland series (2015–2020), Clausen in Dark (2017–2019), and Uncle Rudi in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015). He appears as Hermann Kühn in the 2026 film Gentle Monster.
