Biography
Takeshi Katō (加藤 武) was a Japanese stage and film actor. He was born on 24 May 1929 in Tokyo and died there on 31 July 2015.
After graduating from Waseda University and working briefly as a middle-school teacher, he joined the Bungakuza theatre troupe in 1952. He appeared on stage and directed plays, and later acted in more than one hundred films.
Katō is known for supporting roles in several films directed by Akira Kurosawa, including Seven Samurai (1954), Yojimbo (1961), High and Low (1963) as Detective Nakao, and Ran (1985). He also worked with directors such as Shōhei Imamura, Kon Ichikawa and Hideo Gosha.
