Biography
Tchéky Karyo (born Baruh Djaki Karyo) was a Turkish-born French actor and musician. He began his career on stage in classical and contemporary plays after training at the Cyrano Theatre and the National Theatre of Strasbourg.
He moved into film in the 1980s and received a César Award nomination for Most Promising Actor for La Balance (1982). He became known for roles including Bob in Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita (1990), Dmitri Mishkin in GoldenEye (1995), Fouchet in Bad Boys (1995) and Jean Villeneuve in The Patriot (2000). He also appeared in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999) and the BBC series The Missing.
Karyo died on 31 October 2025 aged 72.
