Biography
Ted Childs is a British television producer, writer and director. Born Edward Samuel Childs on 26 December 1934 in Hackney, London, he began his career in 1962 as a programme director with ABC Weekend TV. He worked on factual programmes including episodes of the current affairs series This Week and directed and produced episodes of the documentary series The World at War (1973–1974).
Childs was one of the founders of Euston Films, the Thames Television production company. There he produced The Sweeney (1975–1978) and other series and films. In 1984 he became Controller of Drama at Central Independent Television and later Managing Director of Central Films, serving as executive producer on series including Inspector Morse (1987–2000), Soldier Soldier (1991–1995) and Kavanagh QC (1995–2001), and films such as Goodnight, Mister Tom (1998). He has won one BAFTA award.
