Biography

Ted McCord (born Thamer D. McCord) was an American cinematographer. Born on 2 August 1900 in Sullivan County, Indiana, he died on 19 January 1976 in Glendale, California.

He began his career as a camera assistant in 1917 and received his first cinematography credit on Sacred and Profane Love (1921). McCord worked extensively at Warner Bros. and served as a captain in the US Army Photographic Unit during the Second World War, filming in Berlin. He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers.

McCord's credits include The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), Johnny Belinda (1948), East of Eden (1955), The Hanging Tree (1959) and The Sound of Music (1965). He received three Academy Award nominations for cinematography.
