Biography

Tensai Okamura, also credited as Yutaka Okamura, is a Japanese anime director and animator. He was born on 13 December 1961 in Fukushima Prefecture and grew up in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. He graduated from Waseda University’s department of science and engineering, joined the studio Madhouse as an animator, and began using the name Tensai Okamura in 1991. He later worked freelance.

Okamura made his directorial debut with the segment “Stink Bomb” in the anthology film Memories (1995). He contributed episode direction, storyboards and key animation to the television series Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995). His other directing credits include Wolf’s Rain (2003), Darker than Black (2007), Blue Exorcist (2011) and The Seven Deadly Sins (2014).
