Biography
Thelma Connell (credited early as Thelma Myers) was a British film editor. Born Thelma Balle Dunaway in London on 30 June 1912, she began her career as a continuity girl before working as an assistant editor on films including The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943). Her first major editing credit came on Noël Coward and David Lean's In Which We Serve (1942).
She edited numerous British productions, often collaborating with directors such as Frank Launder, Sidney Lumet and Lewis Gilbert. Her credits include Green for Danger (1946), The Blue Lagoon (1949), The Hill (1965), Alfie (1966) — for which she received a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing, the first for a woman in the category — and Endless Night (1972). She was the original editor on You Only Live Twice (1967) before being replaced. Connell also produced episodes of the television series The Adventures of Robin Hood and co-directed the 1954 film Tale of Three Women. She died in Monaco on 29 April 1976.
