Biography
Thornton Wilder was an American playwright and novelist. He wrote the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's 1943 film Shadow of a Doubt, alongside Sally Benson and Alma Reville.
Wilder won Pulitzer Prizes for the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1927) and the plays Our Town (1938) and The Skin of Our Teeth (1942). His play The Matchmaker was adapted into the musical Hello, Dolly! (1969). He was born on 17 April 1897 in Madison, Wisconsin, and died on 7 December 1975.
