Biography
Stanley J. "Tiny" Sandford was an American actor. He frequently appeared in comedy films of the silent and early sound eras, often cast as a tall, burly comic heavy or authority figure such as a policeman, foreman or bully.
Sandford was born in Osage, Iowa. After working in stock theatre he entered films around 1910. He is best known for his work with Charlie Chaplin, appearing in The Gold Rush (1925), The Circus (1928) and Modern Times (1936), where he played Big Bill. He also featured in several Laurel and Hardy shorts and features, including Big Business (1929) and Our Relations (1936). Sandford retired from acting in 1940 after a small role in Chaplin's The Great Dictator.
