Biography
Toby Stephens is a British actor of stage, film and television. Born in Fitzrovia, London, he trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 1991. He began his career with early stage work at the Royal Shakespeare Company, including the title role in Coriolanus (1994), for which he received the Sir John Gielgud Prize and the Ian Charleson Award.
Stephens is known for his film roles as Gustav Graves in Die Another Day (2002), Glen 'Bub' Doherty in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016) and Bill Beaman in Hunter Killer (2018). On television he has played Captain James Flint in Black Sails (2014–2017), John Robinson in Lost in Space (2018–2021) and Poseidon in Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023–). He appeared as Frank Warren in the film Giant (2025). He is the son of actors Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Robert Stephens.
