Biography
Tony Hoare was a British television screenwriter. Born in Oxford in 1938, he spent much of the 1960s in prison for bank robberies, working as a getaway driver. While incarcerated he met a visiting writer who encouraged him to try scriptwriting; his first produced work was the semi-autobiographical play The Chaps.
His television credits began in the early 1970s with series such as New Scotland Yard, Crown Court and Within These Walls. He wrote three episodes of The Sweeney (1976–1978) and went on to contribute twenty scripts to Minder (1979–1994), as well as episodes of London's Burning, The Gentle Touch and other crime dramas. Hoare died in France in 2008.
