Biography
Ian Toynton is a British-American television director, producer and editor. He was born on 22 April 1946 in Hendon, Middlesex, England, and was educated at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Elstree. He began his career in the British television industry as a film editor and sound editor on series including The Sweeney (1975), Van der Valk and The Professionals.
Toynton moved into directing in the early 1980s with episodes of Minder, Bergerac and the BAFTA-nominated miniseries Widows (1983). He relocated to the United States in the mid-1990s and has since directed episodes of numerous series, including JAG, The Pretender, Relic Hunter, 24, The O.C., NCIS, Bones, Touch, Designated Survivor and SEAL Team. He has also served as a producer or executive producer on The O.C. and Bones, and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing an episode of 24.
