Biography

Trevor Nunn is an English theatre and film director. He was born on 14 January 1940 in Ipswich, Suffolk. After studying at Downing College, Cambridge, he began directing at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1964.

Nunn served as artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1968 to 1986 and of the Royal National Theatre from 1997 to 2003. He directed acclaimed stage productions of Shakespeare plays and musicals including Cats (1981) and Les Misérables (1985).

His film credits include Lady Jane (1986) and Red Joan (2018). He directed and wrote the screenplay for the 1996 film adaptation of Twelfth Night.
