Biography
David Parfitt (born 8 July 1958) is an English film producer and former actor. He was born in Sunderland and educated at the Barbara Speake Stage School in London. He began his career as an actor, appearing in television series such as And Mother Makes Three and its sequel, before giving up acting in the late 1980s to focus on production.
In 1987 he co-founded the Renaissance Theatre Company with Kenneth Branagh. Parfitt served as associate producer on Henry V (1989) and went on to produce or co-produce numerous British films, including Much Ado About Nothing (1993), The Madness of King George (1994), Shakespeare in Love (1998), My Week with Marilyn (2011), Loving Vincent (2017) and The Father (2020). He is a co-founder of Trademark Films.
Parfitt won the Academy Award for Best Picture for Shakespeare in Love. The Madness of King George won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film. He has also produced television adaptations including Parade's End (2012) and The Wipers Times (2013).
