Biography
Tullio Carminati was an Italian actor born on 21 September 1894 in Zadar, then part of Austria-Hungary and now in Croatia. He died in Rome on 26 February 1971. He began his career on the Italian stage in the early 1910s, working with companies including those of Ermete Novelli and Eleonora Duse, before making his film debut around 1914.
Carminati appeared in numerous silent films in Italy and later in Hollywood productions of the 1920s and 1930s, such as The Duchess of Buffalo (1926), The Bat (1926) and One Night of Love (1934). He also performed on Broadway. In the post-war period he took supporting roles in international films including The Beauty of the Devil (1950), Roman Holiday (1953) as General Provno, War and Peace (1956), El Cid (1961) and The Cardinal (1963).
