Biography

Ulrich Noethen is a German actor. Born Ulrich Schmidt on 18 November 1959 in Munich, he trained at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and began his theatre career in the mid-1980s at venues including the Städtische Bühnen Freiburg, Schauspiel Köln and Staatliche Schauspielbühnen Berlin.

He achieved his breakthrough in film with the role of Harry Frommermann in Comedian Harmonists (1997), for which he received the German Film Award for Best Actor and the Bavarian Film Award. Noethen is known for portraying Heinrich Himmler in Downfall (2004) and My Führer (2007), as well as roles in A Coffee in Berlin (2012), Hannah Arendt (2012), The Diary of Anne Frank (2016) and the series Deutschland (2015) and Charité (2017). He has also worked extensively in radio drama and as an audiobook narrator.
