Biography
Van Doude, also credited as Doude van Herwijnen, was a Dutch actor. Born on 28 May 1926 in Haarlem, he worked primarily in French theatre and cinema after moving to Paris following the Second World War. He appeared in small roles from the late 1940s and gained notice in films including Billy Wilder's Love in the Afternoon (1957) as Michel.
He is best known for supporting parts in several French New Wave and later international productions. These include the role of an American journalist and Patricia's friend in Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (1960), a part in Éric Rohmer's The Sign of the Lion (1962), the hospital director in Z (1969), and a military officer in The Day of the Jackal (1973). He was married to Alberte Robert and died on 18 August 2018 in Clichy, France.
