Biography

Alan MacDonald was a British production designer. He worked on feature films including The Queen (2006), for which he received nominations for the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for a Contemporary Film and the British Independent Film Award for Best Technical Achievement.

MacDonald collaborated frequently with director Stephen Frears on films such as Chéri (2009), Tamara Drewe (2010), Philomena (2013), Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) and Victoria & Abdul (2017). Other credits include The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012), Sing Street (2016) and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018). His final two film credits were dedicated to his memory.

Earlier in his career he worked in furniture making, music videos and advertisements, and designed the set for Kylie Minogue's KylieFever2002 tour. He died on 30 August 2017.
