Biography
Alec McCowen, born Alexander Duncan McCowen, was an English actor. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after attending Skinners' School in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where he was born on 26 May 1925.
McCowen established a reputation through stage work, including classical roles and one-man shows, before appearing in films such as Frenzy (1972), Travels with My Aunt (1972), Never Say Never Again (1983), The Age of Innocence (1993) as Sillerton Jackson, and Gangs of New York (2002). He was appointed CBE in 1986.
He died in London on 6 February 2017.
