Biography
Alison Maclean is a Canadian-New Zealand film and television director. She was born on 31 July 1958 in Ottawa, Ontario, to New Zealand-born parents and moved to New Zealand with her family as a teenager. She graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture in 1982.
Maclean began directing short films in the 1980s, including Talkback (1987) and Kitchen Sink (1989), the latter of which screened at Cannes and won eight international awards. Her feature films are Crush (1992) and Jesus' Son (1999). She has directed episodes of numerous television series, among them Homicide: Life on the Street (1997), Sex and the City (1998), Carnivàle (2003), The Tudors (2007) and The Wilds (2020–2022). She has also directed music videos, including Natalie Imbruglia's 'Torn' (1997), and commercials.
Later work includes the feature The Rehearsal (2016).
